Not only does Washington boast dozens of scenic by ways, but it also has a plethora of geologic wonders hidden within its pine forests and mountain vistas.
The Columbus River Gorge is a national scenic area that encompasses approximately 292.500 acres and spans two states, all along the Columbus River. It is high on the list for many tourists who wish to visit riverside parkways and offers both natural and cultural history. It may be a bit further south then North Central Washington, but well worth the drive.
Riverside State Park is located in Spokane, WA also boasts a deep history in Native American culture as well as a rare fresh water marsh environment along the Little Spokane River. There are several different points of interest that are self guided, but a park ranger is always close by should you need any help.
